.: My Interests :.
I have always been
passionately fond of nature, travelling, and learning about Countries and cultures of the
world. I believe we can learn a lot from studying other people's values, customs and
civilization standards, and mixing with people from other cultures. When I was a child, I
was used to spend hours looking at the atlas and dreaming about visiting far countries,
exploring unknown places and meeting interesting people. This led me to study languages at
school (I am Russian mothertongue and I can speak English
and Italian fluently), and when I started working as an interpreter it
took it more as a hobby than as a job. Moreover, I was paid for something that I enjoyed
very much doing, and since then I always managed to match my interests with my
professional activity.
I spend at present most
of my time online due to my job. I personally take care of several English to Russian
translations, and closely work with mothertongue English (British,
Australian, and American) linguists for Russian to English translations.
I also like to chat via ICQ or exchange emails with my sister and my friends in Russia
when I can afford to take a break. I also travel a lot back and forth to Russia, visiting
my parents and relatives and (again) for job purposes.
Having had my husband bugging me for some 3 years,
I finally decided to apply for editorship at the Open Directory Project where I was accepted
in October 2002 in the Textile Machinery and Equipment category. Editing at the ODP is interesting, and
relaxing: I get to surf for sites on one of my pet topics and I can make them accessible
to other surfers. Also, I can finally understand what my husband is talking about when he
pops up with stuff like "last couple of reds and I'll be finished"...
When I'm not working,
travelling, trying to keep our house an acceptable place, or trying to prevent our son Micha from getting in trouble, I enjoy
taking long walks or bicycling and breathing some fresh air, or taking care of my roses in
the garden. I am really pleased that we moved from our apartment in Turin to our beautiful
family villa in a quiet country village, where we can enjoy the birds chirping in the park
and I can see snowcapped mountains from the window right in front of me even when I am
working.
Since when I married my
husband I started enjoying taking long tours with his custom motorbike, and whereas I always found
it a bit heavy for me I was learning how to drive it until I got pregnant with Michail. I
hope I will find time to try again, since travelling around on such a monster with him is
a real pleasure. If you want to know something more about me and my family, visit my
husband's personal website.
